Sheffield Leadmill Gig [20 Nov 2006|04:58pm]

lhazzie
Absolutely amazing, more enthusiastic and energetic than last time they were here... I completely failed to get the names of the 2 support acts though, don't supose anyone was there or can find out for me who they were?

Also, does anyone know in advance who the support will be when they play Newcastle on Saturday? Taking my sister to that gig for her birthday...

Bluetones update [15 Nov 2006|03:46am]

[ mood | okay ]

If you haven't seen it already, the Bluetones have a shiny new website at www.bluetones.info

It's got news, tour dates (they're currently on tour in the UK of course!), the mandatory discography, and as well as photos it now also has some of the singles videos. I just watched Mudslide, which I didn't realise was another thing Matt Lucas joined them on.

If anyone's going to see them on tour, have a good 'un!

I just found out the single got to number 68 - the first Bluetones single not to go into the top 40 apparently!

For those who haven't received/heard stuff.etc.dot..la la laaa......:-P

The Earth falls silent as the hour approaches...
the birds stop their chattering in the trees...
the winds subside in anticipation...

is it true?

Have The Bluetones decided the world is at last ready to receive?

The answer, my little eggs, is yes...

For on September 18th 2006 a new single 'My Neighbour's House' shall be made available to all human life.
A compact disc, a 7" single and also a download will go on sale, offering the gift of enlightenment and satisfaction to all who choose to purchase.

Rejoice you bastards, rejoice. x

The Bluetones are back!

Their new single is called My Neighbour's House, it's out 18th September and you can hear it now on their MySpace page:
http://www.myspace.com/thebluetones

This was sent to me by email from their record company:

The Bluetones forthcoming single, “My Neighbour’s House” (released 18th September) is one of three tracks up for nomination on this week’s 6 Music Rebel Playlist. To listen to and vote for The Bluetones, please go to www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/steve_lamacq and scroll through to the bottom.

The winning track will be announced on Monday 28th August and will then be played on each 6 Music daytime show throughout the week.

(If like me, you use a web based email and not Outlook or anything, email lamacq.6music@bbc.co.uk with the subject track1)

Hoorah for the Bluetones!

Sadly I can't make it to this gig at Academy 2 on Sunday 19th March so I'm having to sell the tickets.

£12.50 each (face value) plus £1 for recorded delivery. Making that £26 for the pair, via Paypal, thank you very much.

Please email me at HRHPrincessZelda@btinternet.com . First one to do so gets them! Thank you.

Bluetones Update [22 Feb 2006|11:58am]

Hello!
It seems like things are happening in the world of the Bluetones so I thought I would give this community a kick up the backside.

I saw them in November at the Carling Academy in Birmingham when I got my hands on the EP. One or two tracks I really liked, it's worth having a listen to.

Then I saw Mark performing as Fi Lo Beddow at the Barfly in Birmingham earlier this month which I thoroughly enjoyed. If you get chance to see him but you're not sure how it'll compare to Bluetones gigs then just go, you will enjoy it. I also got to chat to the man afterwards and was reminded what a nice bloke he is.

I am also going to see the band next month in my home town of Wolverhampton. I think if you see the band too often you sometimes wonder whether it's worth paying to see them again when it's all the same songs, but they are a band that have to be seen live to be properly appreciated and I know the venue is a good one so I'm looking forward to it.

Good news for the band, this month they were signed to a new record label, Cooking Vinyl, which means a new album will be on the way some time in the misty future.

Finally, The Bluetones are releasing another 'best of' CD. A Rough Outline is a collection of all the singles and B-sides from 1995 to 2003.

I'll leave it up to you to decide if they're just trying to rip off the diehard fans into parting with money for music they mostly already own, but I think it's a handy collection so I'll probably be one of the suckers that buy it :)

Mark Morriss on Wednesday [04 Sep 2005|10:35pm]

I went to see Mark Morriss (or Fi-Lo Beddow) at Turnmills in Farringdon on Wednesday, it was a small place and I was right at the front and just a bit over to the right from where he sat and played.
He started off with Keep The Home Fires Burning (a long time favourite of mine) and near the start played covers of Pixies' Gouge Away and Woman In Love, quite a few of the songs he played were ones that people requested because he claimed to have lost the setlist. He also kept asking us how many songs he'd already played and people kept shouting 'two!' the whole way through. I think that I also heard someone say 'you're no James Blunt' at one point but he didn't seem to notice that one.
He seemed in very good humour throughout despite a load of idiots talking loudly over to the side of the venue, and was very funny, telling some jokes at one point. He also played some new songs (Lemon And Lime was my favourite of them, loved the line in one of the others about hanging out with Jesus and JLo!) and other Bluetones songs I Was A Teenage Jesus, One Speed Gearbox and right near the end The Fountainhead, which was cool as it was the only one which I hadn't seen The Bluetones play before (and it's a lovely song of course!). It seemed to get by far the best reaction.
He also handed out loads of business cards which he claimed to have had printed on the way there, they say Fi-Lo Beddow and 'folk-poet and pioneer'!
It was a really enjoyable set in general, I think there will be songs on the website soon which I look forward to too.

The Bluetones - Exeter [22 Aug 2005|03:04pm]

Went to see The Bluetones! Many vodkas later after avoiding the support - Boy singer band didn't get me, girl singer band were definitely better and then the guys came on and were so very entertaining, it's been 9 years I think since I first saw them and it's crazy to think still going well and such a good laugh. Best of all they played old stuff more than new stuff, plus the odd B-Side (V v cool), I know pretty much all of their moosik so was singing along merrily throughout, it went far too quickly, singing along to Carnt Be Trusted, The Fountainhead, Slight Return, Simple Things, The Basement Song...in fact thinking about it I believe they played every song I really really loved...ahh such a top top night. :D

Better review soon!

Hello all, does anyone know what's happened to the Bluetones site? It, and most of the fan sites and the forum, appear to have been hacked?!

Thanks to Kim (Blitz) for telling me about this!

My particular favourite:

'WHAT IS THE BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT YOU COULD STILL MAKE AS A BAND?
We're still hopeful that Chris Martin will be our friend and donate a dreary piano ballad for us to take to the top of the hit parade.'
